Meet the Author
Hi! It’s me, BB — proud nerd, unapologetic villain sympathizer, a little bougie, a lot bookish, and Oxford comma devotee. I write about complex, morally gray characters you love to hate (or hate to love), believe character > plot, and reckon every good book should have an accompanying soundtrack.
Like my main character, Susannah, I have a taste for musicals, good wine, and petty revenge. I’m a member of Sisters in Crime and freelance for Bookbound, the podcast, and their Substack. When not taking part in Susannah’s guilty pleasures, you’ll find me helping students tell their own stories.
On my Substack, I share anything and everything story-adjacent and it's a wild ride... my brain is a crazy place to be. So grab a glass of wine and join me!

Caught between the family that tried to bury her (literally) and the one that taught her what it means to be alive, Susannah—presumed dead—must expose her corrupt family’s deadly secrets to bring herself back to life.
Ten years ago, Susannah died—at least on paper. Truth be told, she’d been desperate to escape her mother’s narcissism, her father’s dirty dealings with cops, and her brother’s affluenza, but this was not her ideal solution. When her brother’s drug deal goes sideways, she’s kidnapped as collateral by the distractingly attractive drug dealer, Gabriel Santos, until her brother pays up. But instead of paying her ransom, her family identifies a random murder victim as Susannah and sends a hitman to actually bury her. Since then, Susannah has lived as a ghost, sheltered by the very people who held her hostage in the first place—the Santos family. Susannah believes her family betrayed her to cover a secret so terrible that they’re willing to sacrifice their only daughter to keep it quiet.
In the present day, as her father launches a campaign to become New York’s next governor, Susannah sees her chance to expose her family once and for all. Making clumsy attempts at espionage—complete with exploding schools, hot pursuits through Little Italy (cannoli to-go intact), and literal dog shit evidence—Susannah digs into her family’s past only to find a veritable smorgasbord of lies, corruption, and murder. But just as she begins to piece together what was really behind her own ‘death,’ her best friend, Fernanda Santos, is framed for a drug felony. The accuser? Susannah’s brother. The presiding judge? Her father. The motive? To get her to stop digging.
With her family ready to steamroll everyone she’s grown to care about, Susannah must decide whether truth and revenge are worth all the deception, danger, and absurdity justice might require before her second chance at life is truly six feet under.
